Science Fiction Reading List
If you are new to science fiction, or just looking for a list of some of the best books ever, I've compiled a list of my favorites.

Frank Herbert Dune
Dune Messiah
Children Of Dune
God Emperor Of Dune

Dune is my favorite set of books of all time. If you are new to reading the first 100-125 pages of this book are rough. Once you get past that point the it will be hard to put it down.

This is the main set of books. I think God Emperor Of Dune is my favorite book of all time.

  Heretics Of Dune
Chapterhouse Dune
The chronicles of Dune come to a close with these two books. I separated them because Frank Herbert jumped ahead in time and they are a separate story from the first four books. The end of Chapterhouse has a note from the author that will make you wonder how he was able to ever focus on writing. Highly recommended.
Dan Simmons Hyperion
The Fall Of Hyperion

Endymion
The Rise Of Endymion

I picked up Hyperion just browsing a book store. This was an amazing read. I remember getting near the end a finally realizing that the book was not going to end and there must have been a sequel. I ran to the store and luckily enough the sequel was already written (The Fall Of Hyperion) and I was able to buy it. I would have been highly disappointed if I had to wait to finish this story. If you buy one, you may as well buy them both. You wouldn't want to finish the first one in the middle of the night and not be able to start the seconds.

The final two books, Endymion and The Rise Of Endymion are just as good, if not better than the first two books. You finally learn what is going on in the universe. I remember waiting for them both to be written before starting the first. I was glad I did. The depth of the world Dan Simmons has created and the story itself are incredible.

  Ilium
Olympos
I have not read these yet. I read the reviews of Ilium and it sounded so good that I decided to wait until Olympos was available. It was just released and I have Ilium in my queue. Based on how much I like Dan Simmons, I can recommend these without having read them yet.
Peter F. Hamilton The Reality Dysfunction - Part 1 - Emergence

The Reality Dysfunction - Part 2 - Expansion

Neutronium Alchemist - Part I - Consolidation

Neutronium Alchemist - Part 2 - Conflict

The Naked God - Part 1 - Flight

The Naked God - Part 2 - Faith
A six book "space opera" and a fun read all the way through. I think a couple of the books could have been combined into two but the publisher was probably greedy. In any case, it was worth the price. Part Horror, mostly Science Fiction. A good read.
This book has the best start of any book I have ever read. It's a quick and very easy read. It is also the funniest book I have every read. You can't beat a book that opens like this:

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western spiral arm of the galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this, at a distance of roughly ninety million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet, whose ape descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea. This planet has, or had, a problem, which was this. Most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small, green pieces of paper, which is odd, because on the whole, it wasn't the small, green pieces of paper which were unhappy. And so the problem remained, and lots of the people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches. Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place, and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans. And then one day, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, a girl, sitting on her own in a small cafe in Rickmansworth suddenly realised what it was that had been going wrong all this time and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no-one would have to get nalied to anything. Sadly, however, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone, the Earth was unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass and so the idea was lost forever."

Hopefully I don't get sued, but hey, I'm pitching the book!
